Jay Kotzker is a partner at Parlatore Law Group with over 15 years of legal experience. He focuses his practice on all areas of intellectual property and cannabis business law, including brand development and protection, and guiding clients through cannabis business licensing, compliance, and operational issues.
Mr. Kotzker is an active participant in various state and local stakeholder working groups, which are vital to the drafting and revising state and local laws affecting cannabis businesses. He is keenly invested in the development of cannabis compliance and on the forefront of changes affecting operations. He has drafted numerous Standard Operating Procedures touching on all areas of compliant cannabis business operations, as well.
Additionally, Mr. Kotzker is actively involved in monitoring legal developments affecting cannabis businesses around the country. He has experience working on licensing applications and with cultivation, manufacturing and dispensary facilities in numerous U.S. states and territories. He also provides legal guidance on commercial real estate, banking, third party vendors, and employment issues, with proficiency in advising on mergers and acquisitions and litigation issues affecting cannabis businesses. Mr. Kotzker’s time spent as general counsel to two multi-state cannabis operators has helped him to develop a strong working knowledge of the nuanced legal issues affecting the cannabis industry, from plant touching matters, to employment issues, dispute resolution, marketing, advertising, and regulatory compliance.
In addition to his cannabis experience, Mr. Kotzker possesses strong skills in the areas of brand development and protection, including the filing and prosecution of copyright registration applications with the U.S. Copyright Office, trademark prosecution with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, trademark and copyright licensing, intellectual property litigation, as well as the creation of effective End User License Agreements, Privacy Policies, Membership Clubs, Terms of Use and Internet advertising, e-commerce, and privacy matters. He has assisted in the management of the intellectual property portfolios of global brands such as Coors and Eddie Bauer. He has also published numerous articles and spoken around the country on Internet advertising, data security, and cannabis brand management and protection issues and strategies.
He is licensed to practice in Colorado and New York.
